ahhh i’m probably going to be useless at this because? even tho i like drrr a lot and love the fuck out of izaya (and mikado and everyone basically) i haven’t given it much deep thought past my initial feelings - i think probably because i’ve never written fic about it and that’s usually where my thoughts on things get generated
that said i think drrr is definitely one of the best animes i’ve ever seen and i really would like to read the manga or the novels at some point bc it’s such an interesting universe and the anime doesn’t give much closure or explanation at all
i definitely haven’t thought much about izmk (and the only fic i’ve read was shizaya but i only found one i really really liked so that never went very far anyway) and had to google the ship name to figure out what you were talking about but!!
i suppose from what i can see there’s a bit of a mirror thing going on with izaya and mikado, and narratively it’s very interesting, bc you go into it thinking that mikado is just the normal clueless protagonist who is just reacting to events outside his control, and izaya the mastermind, only to shortly find out that wham! mikado is pull the strings of his own game over her, and it sort of interlaces so that you realize that they’re a lot more equal than you originally think, which makes it - imo - a lot more interesting
the main differentiating thing i guess is that mikado is very much the everyman, the hero of the people, etc etc, while izaya behaves as this sort of larger than life figure. so even if they’re in similar positions, they look at the world through very different lenses and there’s that strange sort of contrast in that?
note that - having not read the manga or anything and only skimmed izaya’s wikipedia page trying to figure out what the hell is going on with him - i found, well, nothing much? so i really have no idea what’s going on in drrr at all except that it’s really fucking great
