but ahhhh i honestly don’t really base my characterizations of characters in fic (nights or otherwise) on kind of arbitrary gimmicks associated with them? like L and cake and light and potato chips and near and toys? i mean yeah i’ll throw a mention in every so often but i don’t think it’s got anything defining to do with the characters and it’s not the part i’m interested in anyway

i think that focusing too much on stuff like that makes it easy to leave the characters flat and 2d and i find it dull honestly. i like ripping them out of imposed cliches and seeing them as people in the context of their story, suffering and laughing and living the way people do. i did throw a hot chocolate mention in there, but i particularly dislike most fic characterizations of mello where he’s just this nut yelling about chocolate, because he’s much more subtle and sober and overly grim than that, and he’s got the put on cool-guy thing and i love that, but idc about the chocolate. i also think that in his situation in nights he probably couldn’t afford luxuries like that. if you wanna imagine him gorging on chocolate in deleted scenes please feel free!!
